Under a lot of stress and constantly on the go? Grabbing a handful of almonds for a snack may be just what the doctor ordered!
Not only are almonds high in vitamin E, which has been proven to prevent cellular damage responsible for stress and reduce the risk of heart disease, but they also are a source of calcium,
magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, folic acid and fiber. Almonds are also high in antioxidants and are low in saturated fats. One ounce of almonds (20-25 almonds) represents 12% of your daily
allowance of protein, 35% of your daily allowance of vitamin E and as much calcium as a glass of milk!
Throw almonds on salads, have a handful as a snack or choose to put almond milk on your cereal in the morning and reap the benefits! If your children are not allergic to nuts, almonds are a wonderful after-school snack.

Okay, all you men out there! Think you can eat what you want and stay healthy, right? Wrong! While you might not initially pack on the pounds like us womenfolk, what you put in your body takes a toll on your health. And, creating poor eating habits leads to being overweight and having health complications later on in life. What you do now literally has a direct impact on how you will age and what shape your body and health will be in years from now.
As a runner, I am always looking for ways to power up my runs and recover from strenuous workouts. But, with all of the bars, gels and other products and supplements out there touting this or that, I have to say I am always skeptical at best!
Contrary to what many of you might think or have been led to believe by well-meaning health professionals or manufacturers of low fat foods, I have an important secret to tell you- eating “fat” does not make you fat! Counting calories does not make you skinnier either but we will leave that for another article!!!
