There is nothing more important that we can
do for our children than give them the gift of
appreciating food and understanding that food fuels our bodies and minds. Not only does what they eat affect their ability to perform in school, play sports and be able to function in social situations, but what they put in their bodies today has a direct effect on their health as an adult!
Most athletes have read and have been told by their trainers to consume protein, protein, and more protein throughout their day for muscle building and recovery. Our bodies need protein not only to build and help muscles regenerate but protein also plays an important role in the body’s metabolism, hormonal balance, and immune protection.
Contrary to what many of you might think or have been led to believe by well-meaning health professionals or manufacturers of low fat foods, I have an important secret to tell you- eating “fat” does not make you fat! Counting calories does not make you skinnier either but we will leave that for another article!!!
